John was born in 1942. He was the son of Edward and Charlotte Knight. John's mother died when he was very young, and in 1950, he was living in the home of his grandfather, Austin Knight, in Lincolnville, Maine. His father, Edward, was living in Berwick raising 3 of his 7 children.
