His wife, Catharine died in April 1868. They had one child, Mathias, born about 1866. Peter remarried Gertrude Koelsch 29 June 1868. Witnesses to marriage were John Loser and his daughter, Barbara Loser.[2]
In 1873, Peter lived at 211 Orchard in Chicago (laborer). [3] He died in Sept. 1877.[4]
Research Notes
For a long time, I thought that there may have been two Peter Kirsch's, born around the same time in the same place. This is because of the 1870 census. It shows Peter, with wife Catherine, son Mathias (b. 1865), and daughter Johanna (b. Jan. 1870). [5] I have a strong feeling that is wrong. First of all, I have never found any record for a Johanna Kirsch. Nothing. I never found another Mathias until the 1880 census, where he is living with widowed Gertrude, with a birth date of 1865.[6] That was 3 years before Peter and Gertrude were married. There is also a son named Johan, born in 1870. I think that Johanna in the 1870 census was actually Johan (John). I am leaving this family alone for now, until sources come up that prove otherwise.
