David Kinsey was a William Penn fleet passenger.

DAVID KINSEY, THE IMMIGRANT. A Quaker, David Kinsey came in the ship, "Lyon", to Pennsylvania in June 1682.* A deed to David Kinsey, carpenter from the Parish of Nantmel, County of Radnor, Wales, for 100 acres of land in Pennsylvania, dated June 19/20-1682 from Richard Davies of Welsh Poole, Montgomery County, is recorded in Philadelphia in Deed Book G, Vol. 2, page 84-85.

• Note: The Welcome Society website shows that David migrated on the second sailing of the Bristol Factor. However, this ship sailed August 1682, too late if David made land transactions in Pennsylvania in June 1682. However, it is possible that the land transactions were "sixth month" (August) on the Quaker (old) calendar. If so, then the Bristol Factor would be the most likely ship of sailing. More study on this question is warranted. ^[1]

From the records of the Board of Property, we learn that 300 acres in Radnor Township PA was laid out in the Welsh Tract to David Kinsey and also a lot on Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, on the site of Independence Hall. This tract was never patented to him, but his widow, Magdalen Kinsey, conveyed it to different parties.

David was a Friend (Quaker)

David Kinsey was a Quaker and affiliated with the Monthly Meeting known as Radnor, Haverford and Merion at different times. He was buried at Haverford, west side of "Scoolkill" 7th. day, 7th. month, 1687 [September 7, 1687].

"On November 16,1689--letters of administration were granted by the Register General of Philadelphia to Magdalen Kinsey (No. 241) relict and widow of David Kinsey late of ye Township of Radnor in the County of Philadelphia, yeoman, deceased, on the estate of her said husband." (Admrn.--Docket A, page 98.)

The maiden name of Magdalen Kinsey is unknown. After David Kinsey's death, she married September 20,1690, at the home of David Price, Howell James, widower, both of Radnor Township. Her son, John Kinsey, was one of the twenty-five witnesses. She died prior to April 25, 1715, when Howell James laid his intention of marriage to Phebe Moore of Radnor before Newark Monthly Meeting.

Howell James lived some years in Bristol Township, Philadelphia County, and later in New Castle County, [Delaware]. He died before the 7th month [September], 1717.

David Kinsey had two sons:

1. The older son was John Kinsey, born in England or Wales about 1665, and who died in 1735; he married Sarah Stevens at the Quaker Philadelphia Monthly Meeting on August 20, 1687. His mother (or step-mother) Magdalen Kinsey signed as witness. Sarah died July 11, 1702. John moved to Woodbridge, N. J. in 1703. He married a second time, 2nd. intentions at Shrewsbury Meeting, March 1, 1704, to the widow of Nathaniel Fitz Randolph, whose name was Grace Hull.

John Kinsey was a member and Speaker of the House in New Jersey, as was his son, John Kinsey, Jr. The latter was a distinguished lawyer, who moved to Philadelphia, and died in 1750. He was Speaker of the House in Pennsylvania and Chief Justice of Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He married in 1725, Mary, daughter of Philip Kearney, and was the father of James Kinsey (III), Chief Justice of New Jersey Supreme Court.

David and Magdalen Kinsey had a 2nd son:

2. Edmund Kinsey: born in 1683 at Philadelphia; He died on December, 24,1759, in Buckingham Township, Bucks County, Pa. On August 21, 1708, at Woodbridge, N. J. MM, he married Sarah Ogborn , daughter of Samuel and Jane (Curtis) Ogborn. Sarah was born about 1691 and died at age 96 on June 27, 1787 (exact date uncertain).
