In the Will of Daniel Bishop (Written in 1847, a few days before his death) he identifies all his children (Eliza, John, George, Simon, Lucy and Eunice. He also identifies ‘his wife’s daughter’ Elizabeth Stevens. In the Nova Scotia Archives, there is an Elizabeth Stephens who marries Mayhew Beckwith Caldwell. Elizabeth identifies Anthony and Lucy Stephens as her parents and from her age at the time of her marriage, she was born in 1835.

It is likely that Anthony Stephens died in 1834 or 1835. I have not seen any confirmation of this but one would assume within 9 months of Elizabeth’s birth. Lucy Stephens Kinney then married Daniel Bishop in 1835 (I have not seen a source for his information). It is therefore apparent that Lucy Kinney was not the mother of Daniels sons (John (1826), George (1827) and Simon (1832) or his daughter Eliza (1814). She is the mother of Lucy Ann Bishop (1837) and probably Eunice (birthdate not known). This brings us back to Daniel. With one child born in 1814, and then three more in the late 20’s and early 30’s after a decade with no children, I would guess that he had been married twice before Lucy. Finding these names to confirm this suspicion would be a difficult slog but well worth it.
