Bela married Lydia Macomber, daughter of Philip and Abigail (Macomber) Dean of Taunton, Mass., on November 29, 1804.[1]
"Mr. Kingman was the son of a farmer and tanner, and followed the same occupation, and succeeded to the old homestead at North Middleboro', where he became the head of a family of twelve children. He held a major's commission in 1812; but, two persons holding the same office in the same regiment, he was excused from serving. He was a firm and consistent member of the Congregational Church in North Middleboro', and was its first sabbath school superintendent, in 1818. He was of a strong robust nature, and morally strong, of good judgment, and in all the positions he was called to fill he performed their duties in accordance with the saying, " Act well your part, there all the honor lies " ; and here we may be permitted to quote from one who writes as follows concerning; the characteristics of the Kingman family : " Strong attachment to and high admiration of each other ambition, not in the acquisition of wealth or goodly apparel, but in the acquisition of knowledge." It may well be said, "A Kingman is a good friend and true, but not an enemy to be desired."
On the seventh day of March, 1848, there was held a family meeting at the old homestead, at which were present five generations, including Mrs. Dean, the mother of Mrs. Kingman, ....[1]
