John was born in 1551. He was the son of Henry Kinge [1] and Alice Roger.
John was raised in the City of London parish of St Clements, Eastcheap. He was baptised at St Andrew Hubbard Church, London on 13 November 1551. [2]
Marriage
He was a draper and free of the companye of Cloth Workers, and married Susan Woodward, daughter of Christopher Woodward and Elizabeth Oldbury on 15 May 1586 in Kent, England [3][4][5] in St. Olave’s, Southwark about 1586; [6] they had children:
a second John Kinge 1602-1631 christened 29 Aug 1602 in Bromley, Kent: [12] mentioned in the willl of Samuel Walton, of St Mary's Cray, in Kent, gentleman, dated on the 2nd of April 1631; his half brother.
Life Story
John was a citizen of London and a clothworker in the worshipful company of clothworkers. Recorded in his will (see below).
At some point the King family moved to Bromley in Kent although they may have retained business premises and a residence in London. We learn that an area north of Bromley town known as Plaistow had land and a house in Milk Street that passed in to the posession of the King family by 1589. On John's death it passed to his widow who remarried and the house then stayed in the Walton family for several generations, until 1754. A relative, an Arnold King of Foxgrove Manor, Beckenham owned land in the nearby Springhill district of Bromley and the land on which Plaistow Hall was erected. [13]
Death
John died on 5 September 1603 and is buried in St Peter and St Paul Church, Bromley. [14][15] His wife, Susan went on to marry Henry Walton of London in 1604, [16] producing from this second marriage a son, Samuel Walton and a daughter, Elizabeth, who married Robert Long.
In the knave of the Parish Church of Bromley, Kent is the tomb of John Kinge. [18]The brass is in the pavement of the center isles and still in a good condition; it reads:

John left a will leaving his estate to his wife with various bequests. [21]
