Biography

Cordelia's first husband was a Robertson. Apparently she had two children by Mr. Robertson - William (William James?) and Elizabeth. These two children appear on the 1850 census record ages 6 and 4. So William was born about 1844 and Elizabeth about 1846. Cordelia and Benjamin Blackburn married in 1848. In the census record for 1860, these two children are again given with the last name of Robertson. (In 1850 they were listed as Blackburns.) Apparently, Cordelia's first husband passed away and she married a second time to Benjamin Franklin Blackburn.

In the Extract of the Rejected Applications of the Guion Miller Roll of the Eastern Cherokee that was filed by Ben Blackburn - son of Benjamin Franklin Blackburn and Cordelia Antoinette King, Ben listed his father as Ben Blackburn, his mother as Antilet King, his grandfather as Billy Blackburn, and Antilet's father as Harry King. Ben Blackburn listed the English and Indian names of his grandparents on both his paternal and maternal side. On his father's side, he lists "Billy Blackburn." On his mother's side, he lists "Harris Skinner" and says "and a full blood Cherokee Indian, and "Harry King." So Cordelia Antoinette Blackburn's father was HARRY KING who was married to the daughter of HARRIS SKINNER.

Cordelia was the daughter of a full blooded Eastern Cherokee Indian named Harry King. In ancestry.com, you can find the letters Cordelia signed to receive funds from the Government for Ben's death.

You will find attached to her son Benjamin Freeman Blackburn letters from an attorney which Ben listed when Cordelia died. It listed Ben's father as Billy Blackburn. The William Blackburn listed on findagrave as Ben's father is the only William Blackburn that I could find that fit the records as Ben's father. The letter listed a lot of the children, (Siblings of Benjamin Freeman Blackburn) by their Indian name as well as white man's name. It is listed in the Guidion Cherokee Indian roll number listing, added years later by pen, not typed.
