Biography

Listed in Ligon's Portraiture of Preachers in 1899. In Shelby, TX, on Aug. 3, 1867, he married Ann Downing Oates who was born in 1847. "Allen, the oldest, was educated in a Baptist seminary and was a Baptist preacher until he went into a debate with a Campellite - Christian Church minister. Debates were popular at the time. He lost the debate and became a Church of Christ minister for the remainder of his life. Allen joined the Confederate Army with his dad in Feb. 1962. He was discharged soon afterward due to an enlarged heart." Copied from www.ancestry.com.
