Biography

Helen Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King and Rosa Zella Barnhisel, was born on 3 April 1913 in Gilead, Miami County, Indiana, United States.[1][2] Bernice was enumerated during the 1920 and 1930 censuses with her parents and siblings, living in Gilead, Perry Township.[3][4] They haven't been found on the 1940 census.

Bernice apparently married and divorced, but when, where, and her husband's identity is unknown. She had no known children. She was listed as divorced when she was enumerated during the 1950 census with her parents, on their farm located on Road 19.[5]

At the time of her father's death in 1960, Bernice lived in Macy, Miami County, Indiana.[6] At the time of her mother's death in 1981, she lived in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.[7] In 1987, she moved to Akron, Fulton County, Indiana, where she lived for the rest of her life.[8][2]

Bernice died at age 93 on 24 November 2006 at Life Care Center in Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana.[2][9] She was buried at Gilead Cemetery.[10]
