Edward Vincent King was born in 1848,[1]
probably in Kilmeelickin, aka Kilmilkin,[1] County Galway, Ireland.
He was the son of John King,[1] a farmer.[1]
Note: this Derreen, known as An Doirín in Gaelic, is near Maam West, in the civil registration district of Oughterard, civil parish of Ross, County Galway. It should not be confused with two other townlands of the same name in County Galway: one to the East of the county (near Tuam) and the other in the West (coastal).
On 30 Dec 1869,[1] aged 21,[1] Edward Vincent King married 20 year old Bridget Walsh.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] He was a farmer living in Kilmilkin[1] and she lived nearby in Maamgowna.[1] They were married in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Kilmilkin[1] in the presence of Michael Walsh[1] and Sabina King.[1]
Edward and Bridget named their children per Irish tradition: their first son was named John[3] after Edward's father, and the second Michael[5] after Bridget's father.
Edward was widowed on 05 Aug 1898 when Bridget died at home in Derreen of pthisis (tuberculosis), after a two year illness.[2] He registered her death on 03 Sep 1898.[2]
He was probably already battling the disease himself: Edward died at home in Derreen[13] on 17 Jun 1900[13] of phthisis and cardiac syncope.[13] His death was registered 02 Jul 1900 by Mary Ellen King of Derreen.[13]
Legacy Unusually for the time and place, Edward had written a will as he had amassed a modest estate of personal belongings, valued at £55.[14]
There may have been complications with the will's probate as it was only granted on 11 Jun 1906[14] - six years after Edward's death - to one Michael Walsh,[14] merchant.

08 Nov 1884: Edward's daughter Elizabeth Sabina King's birth was registered by Annie Mary King, resident of Kilmilkin, niece of Edward.[10]
Julia King: was fourteen, living with Annie (King) Walsh in the 1901 census and named as Annie's husband Patrick's "sister in law" - so presumed to be Annie's sister. However, her civil birth registration has not yet been found to establish her with certainty as the daughter of Edward King & Bridget Walsh.
