Stephen King is an American author, best known for his dives into the horrific, supernatural, and unknown. Some of his notable works include Carrie, Pet Sematary, The Shining, IT, and Misery. Stephen has also published under the pen names Richard Bachman, John Swithen and Beryl Evans.
Stephen Edwin King was born September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine. He is the son of Donald Pollock and Nellie Pillsbury. When Stephen was two, Donald left the family. Nellie raised Stephen and his older brother, David, by herself. She moved around quite a bit in order to have family help, but eventually settled back in Maine to care for her elderly parents and later work at a care facility for the mentally disabled. Stephen was a voracious reader. He attended Durham Elementary School and later graduated from Lisbon High School in Lisbon Falls, Maine. He started publishing works in magazines as a teenager.
Stephen married Tabitha Spruce, a fellow novelist, on January 2, 1971. [1] They have three children together, one daughter and two sons. Both of his sons are authors.
Stephen is still living.
