John L. King was born on August 10, 1787 in New York, United States. His parents were Simeon King (1757 - 1844) and Sarah (Paine) King (1759 - <1813).

He was a farmer when he and Elizabeth appeared on the census of 15 Oct. 1850 at Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.[3] He appeared on the census of 27 July 1860 in the home of his son at Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.[4]
John died on June 13, 1868 in Sullivan Township, Tioga, Pennsylvania aged 80. He is buried in King Hill Cemetery, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
