Henry King was born in about 1802, probably in or near Cam, Gloucestershire. He may have been christened on 14 Nov 1802 in Cam, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth King. He had a younger brother Alfred, born in about 1810.
Henry may have married Sarah Brain on 9 May 1819 at St Nicholas' Church in Bristol (39 km from Cam by modern roads). He was certainly married by 1820.
In 1820, Henry, his wife and his brother Alfred emigrated to South Africa, travelling to the Cape of Good Hope in the party of Samuel Bradshaw, a weaver from Cam, Gloucestershire; the party was made up of people from Cam and neighbouring parishes.
He is listed in Bradshaw's party of 1820 settlers as being 18 years old (making his birth year 1802). His wife is unnamed on the return and no age is given. He travelled with a brother, Alfred, aged 10. The party was composed of persons from Cam, Gloucestershire and the neighbouring parishes, according to the transcription of the party list.
A family tree has been constructed on FamilySearch (unsourced) suggesting that the 1802 baptism belongs to a Henry King who was still in Bristol by 1828, when he had a daughter Ann with his wife Mary Ann.
A widowed Henry King married widow Mary Keightly on 31 Oct 1831 at St George's, Grahamstown, Eastern Cape (both of the local district), witnesses Samuel Field, Ann Rudman, J. H. Dixon - could perhaps be him?[1]
