James Alfred King was born in Bothwell, Tasmania. He moved to Victoria with his parents and lived in Wedderburn.
He married Mary Sullivan in 1870.[1] They had three daughters Mary Ann in 1871[2], Ellen in 1872 [3], and Anne in 1874[4].
He worked as a farmer, and in 1875, the family home was lost to a bushfire. “Sweeping on in a southerly direction, the fire consumed the homestead, fencing, stacks, farming implements, and all that once belonged to Mr. James King, a very hard-working, industrious farmer, who at the time was absent from home with his wife and family. “ [5]
James Alfred King died in Borong, north east of Wedderburn, aged 45, in March 1880.[6] He is buried in Wedderburn Cemetery.
