Biography

Obituary sent to Mary E Boyer from Nancy Boyer. Golda Isal Kincade was born October 11, 1905, near Moravia, Iowa, to Russell and Clara "Boyer" Kincade. In 1909 the family along with several other families decided to stake claims near Faith, South Dakota. The men went first and built sod houses for their families. My father died two weeks after moving his family to the new sod house in South Dakota and it was eighty miles to the nearest railroad station in Sturgis, South Dakota and we traveled ia train back to Moravia for my father's burial at Fairview Main Station Cemetery. Father passed away on November 09, 1909, leaving a wife and three small children. I, Golda, was 4 years old: Herbert was 3 years old: and Kermit was 1. After he funeral we returned to my mother's parents, Francis and Ann Eliza Boyer. Six of my mother's siblings were still living at home at this time. My mother taught school to earn a living fo the family and did washings on a cradle washer in the evenings to pay for our room and board. On January 25, 1912, my mother married Thomas Newton Morrison and we moved to his home two miles NE of Centerville. Herbert went to California to live and in 1934 was killed in a car-motorcycle accident north of Del Mar, CA. After I graduated from Centerville High School I worked at the A&P Grocery on the north side of the Centerville square for 4 years. At the A&P, I met my future husband, George Harold Steele, who worked in the meat department. In 1929 I went to the State of Washington to live at my uncle's ranch, then to California to work in a café for a short while and then I came back to Iowa. Later I went back to California and worked in a cafe and a grocery store. My future husband, George Steele, came to California looking for work. Soon after we both returned to Iowa, George got a job in Des Moines, and I went to work at the A&P in Des Moines also. On November 26, 1931, George and I got married at the dale Church north of Centerville. On August 7, 1932, our son, Joseph Russell Steele was born at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. We lived in Des Moines for several years and on March 22, 1941, our daughter, Clara Marilyn Steele was born at Mercy Hospital. In 1943, we moved back to California and after working there for a year, George was called into the military service, but he didn't have to serve due to medical reasons. We came back to Iowa and bought the George H Steele Packing Co., Inc. in Centerville, Iowa. We ran this business for 25 years. George passed away on January 5, 1987, and is buried in the Main Station Cemetery by lake Rathbun. Golda passed away on September 29, 1999, and is also buried in the Main Station Cemetery. Son, Joseph Russell Steele has two sons: Joseph Russell, Jr., and Nathan Daniel. Daughter, Clara Marilyn has 6 children: Golda Pearl, Jacquelyn Georgia, Jack Lavon, Jr., Mack Lavern, Marilyn Jo Lynn, and Ginger Jo. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Golda was born in 1905. She was the daughter of Clara Boyer. She passed away in 1999.
