Albert was born in 1904 in Breitnau as second son of master tailor Josef Ketterer and his wife Berta Wehrle from Leohäusle (Leohof alt).
His father died in World War I, so he had to help out at his parents agriculture and with raising his seven younger siblings.
In April 1940 he married Luise Birkenberger, the widow of his brother Eduard. From May 1940 until the end of World War II, he was a Wehrmacht soldier at the Eastern front. He was captured by the Russian army, but was released already in September 1945.
Since he was no NSDAP member, he was hired by Hinterzarten town hall in November 1945 and worked as city treasurer, until he became mayor on 27 December 1951.
He remained mayor of Hinterzarten from 1951 until 1966, when he passed away from a disease.
