Dear Virgil,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing a check-in with project members. Please review the following and respond to let us know that you are content with your current team or if you would like to be more involved.

The Project operates in a team structure. There are currently three participant PIP Teams -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

There are currently three different Biography Teams - The Biography Team, the Abandoned Team, and the Popular Team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team. The Biography Team works on profiles from their watchlist and other profiles that interest them. Are you happy with the Team you are on? If you are interested in working with a different Team, please let us know.

If you have not already done so, we invite you to join the email GoogleGroup. We use the WikiTree Discord server #profile-improvement channel for our project. Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project meet its goals. We would like to hear about the successes you’ve had and would also appreciate any feedback you have to help improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or via private message to one of us.

Sincerely,

Registration begins soon for the January thon. I will be reminding you when it is time to register, but I have some news that will be helpful when that time comes. I have been told that we will be trying a new registration system. When you go in to register, it will not be just making a comment as in the past. The new system will have sections for each team. You will just find the Legacy Heirs one and post to that one.

Here is a list of all 4 thons next year:

Connect-a-Thon Jan 19-22

Connect-a Thon Apr 12-15

Connect-a Thon Jul 19-22

Source-a-Thon Oct 4-7

That means the first Thon of the year will be a Connect-a-Thon on the weekend of the 19 - 22 Jan 2024. I would love to have you with your fellow Legacy Heirs at that time, if it works out for you. I will remind you about registration when that time comes.

P.S. I now know a quick and easy little tip on how to add profiles. If you use the Sourcer/Searcher app, and want to know the hint, let me know and I will send you the steps.

Dear Germany Project member,

it's annual check-in time 2023. If you still wish to remain a member of the Germany Project, please reply to this post, by stating this intention. If we don’t hear from you in the next 30 days, your membership badge will be removed. In this case please don't be offended ... you're welcome to rejoin at any time. Please also note, that in order to receive help, with researching your German ancestors, membership is not mandatory. Just ask your questions in the G2G forum and tag them with Germany in order for knowledgeable people to see them.

If you wish to remain a member, we would like to learn more about your perception of the Germany Project in order to achieve a future development according to our members needs and wishes. For this, we created a survey, which we kindly ask you to fill-in.

In case you want to communicate, discuss and receive help about WikiTree in German, you might want to check out the WikiTree category at Compgen’s Discourse as well as the German Discord server Ahnenforschung.

Of course there’s still the official WikiTree Discord server, where we usually talk English. Feel free to learn more about Discord and the server at Help:Discord.

Kind regards from Black Forest

I have all their names, DOB and DOD. Simon Peter Kester would be my great-great grandfather. William E A kester is my great-grandfather. William had 7 children. Herbert Kester is my grandfather. Hello Cousin Robert,

Welcome to WikiTree! I wrote to you last night regular mail, but this morning it had bounced back to me as error ... I just need to figure out why and fix that, then resend. I am looking forward to your new Kester family that you will be adding to our family tree.

I am sure I have all the Kester's you listed above in my own home database. I have that Thomas Simon Kester has a Wikitree profile of Kester-1673, and his wife Margaret Elder has one of Elder-2746. Three of their children have Wikitree profiles, Margaret Kester-2260, Daniel Kester-1665, and Mahala Adeline Kester-2251.

Your going to have to give me more on William E. A. Kester, I have over thirty William Kester's, and twenty more that have middle inital of "E.". Several of them have Wikitree profiles already. So if you start to make profiles, double check the drop down list of possible matches. And if you create one that later turns out to be a duplicate, no worries, Wikitree has a great merge of profiles part of the program.

I have 26 Herbert Kester's, without middle names, then many more with middle names. So need some more information on Herbert to pin down if I have a match with you. And again, if you do not see them on Wikitree, please enter their information. I am looking forward to seeing more of the Kester clan that you enter.

I think that is most of what I had put into my email to you. I still just need to go look at my emails and see why it came back with error. Looking forward to working with you Robert, Virgil

Hi,

It’s Germany Project check-in time again! Please respond within the next 2 weeks and let me know if you’re still interested in participating with the Project. Remember, the only requirements for membership in the Germany Project are (1) that you work on at least one German profile every 6 months and (2) that you respond to this check-in.

Since you’re not working with one of our Sub-projects or Teams yet, please look at our main Project page for a full list and let me know which team you’d like to join.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. In your response, we welcome any feedback you may want to give on the project (what you like about it, what you’d like to see us do, what we could change, etc.)

If you ever have any questions, please ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hello Traci,

Yes i still have a major interest in the Germany Project. I am pretty sure that I have worked on profiles that belong to what would fall into the Germany Project, more than every 6 months. Besides those German profiles on my fathers side, I have those on my mothers side, and I step in on others profiles and help out when I can. Over the past couple years I have had to not step into any commitments due to health issues of family members and of my own. When I can, the most active thing I do these days is log onto Wikitree and try to do what I can. I would like to remain with the project. Virgil M. Kester III

Dear Virgil,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist, from projects in which you are involved, and whatever else you find. Biography Teams Levels 2 and 3 will work on designated profiles for notables (Level 3) and everyday people (Level 2). Please let us know if you would like to help with a higher-level Bio Team or one of the other Teams.

You joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018. We would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you would like to work at a higher level on the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile from your own watchlist that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If your profile is at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.

We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. If you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID. Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:

Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.

We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.

Hiya Nanette, I do not see a link for Kathy Kester here, and am recalling seeing a new Kester profile that may have been for a Kathy Kester, that when I checked it further, I think I linked either her parents or her spouse to her. That was me helping the world wide tree branch out here in WikiTree land. I do not need to manage, thank you for the offer. Virgil

I wish to remain in the Germany Project. My fathers side came over to the US from Germany in the 1640’s. My mothers side came over to the US from Germany after World War I, her father having been forced to fight and was very sick afterward due to the gas he had to breath when in the trenches. They knew that there would be some type of another pending war, and wanted to flee Germany. Some family members were already in the US, they and my mother’s family were farmers. The US treated them very poorly, but they did not do with the German families, like what they did with the Japanese families. The FBI, and local Sheriff came out to their farm and checked on them weekly, even taking away their radio and making sure they had no weapons. So I am basically German, thus is the reason I joined the Germany Project way back when.

Hi, Virgil

The Ambassadors project has been reorganizing and is looking for those who have a membership at a genealogical society, to help in spreading the word about WikiTree.

We're working on ways to improve how WikiTree connects and interacts with genealogical and local history societies. This is the kind of thing we want to do:

  • Liaise with societies: set up your local society with a free-space page and some WikiTree materials as part of a package.
  • Use social media to promote what societies are offering on WikiTree.
  • Encourage bloggers to blog about societies and the resources available to them on WikiTree.

Are you interested in participating in some way? Do you have some ideas to share?

Azure Rae ~ co-Leader of Ambassadors Project

Hello Azure,

I am in the State of California, and County of Santa Cruz. Our local Santa Cruz Society is housed in the main City/County Library building, which has been closed for months now due to the health issues of our world, and California has tightened down on Counties that have high counts of patients, which Santa Cruz County has been one of for months. Our local Society has not been meeting, all our resources are locked up, the building closed, and no newsletters have been going out. I am guessing the status is the same for San Luis Obispo, as I have tried phoning and mailing and have not received any answers back.

I would normally suggest that you mail the welcome materials package for WikiTree right to them, but I have this feeling that there is most likely a big pile of mail building up in the holding box for them, and it could likely get thrown out at this point. The other reason it could get thrown out if mailed, is our fires, we still have fires burning all around us, news just reported a 29% containment on the one closest to us. We get ash rain on us day and night. But the fires have caused the US Mail to deliver all mail that use to go to the main Santa Cruz sorting center, to one in another county, and they deliver the mail to our county now only to two locations, one of which has all our local mail carriers working out of, they deliver mail only to known good addresses. I know this is a long story, but I am just stressing that right now is not the best time to try out the Ambassadors Project around here.

I had an email request from someone to do some research at our county building, because they had not been getting any answers back from their own requests. I let the person asking me know why, our county building has been pretty much closed down all this time, other than needed services, which the County Recorders Office has not been one of. Right now, or at least as of last week, most of the parking lot of the county building complex has been filled with fire trucks.

When things get back to something similar to normal, I will let you know and we will see what we can do about it. If that sounds OK with you. Today I watched strike teams going out, which had only been Fire and Law Enforcement, but today they included Power, Water, and Phone trucks/crews, which is a good sign as it means they are staring to be able to repair things.
