The first land transaction was recorded October 24, 1786 in Book E, page 137: he bought 200 acres "lying in Craven County on the south side of Broad River ... on the waters of Second Creek". A second transaction is recorded December 23, 1793 (State Plats, Vol 29, page 218) -- for 31 acres, adjoining his presently owned land. 1790 show him living in the North Part of Orangeburg District, which later became Newberry County.

Residence: He was a resident of Virginia before moving to South Carolina. He served in the Revolutionary War while living in Virginia, and we believe moved to Newberry County about 1785, very close to the time his son Abraham was born, Newberry County, South Carolina Circa 1785
