Biography

Tabitha was born about 1727 (based on husband's birth date) possibly in Maryland. Her parents are at this time unconfirmed. Her exact date and place of death are uncertain. She was living when her husband's will was proved on 20 Mar 1775.

Tabitha married William Elam Benson on 9 August 1748 in Talbot County, Maryland.^[1] They had children:

1. Sarah Benson, c 1750-bef 1840, md Jonathan McNatt
2. Elam Levin Benson, 1752-1836
3. Robert Benson, c 1753/54
4. Spencer Benson, 1755-1840
5. John Benson, 1758-1818

Tabitha is named an heir in her husband's will to a portion of William's estate for her lifetime. She is also named executor for the will written 22 October 1774 and proved on 20 March 1775 in Worcester County, Province of Maryland. In his will he names:

• Son Robert Benson
• Son John Benson
• Son Spencer Benson
• "my loving wife", also named executor
• "my three youngest children"
• Wits: James Windsor, John (X) Messick, Elesabeth (+) Short^[2]
