Stephen Kennedy lived in Appalachia, in Alabama. See Appalachia Project.

Stephen Kennedy/Cannady was born in North Carolina to Wagstaff Cannady (1745-1812) Cannady-74 and Behethland perhaps maiden name Ramsey (1757-1848).

It is thought that he married twice to (1) Jane Reed (Reese) on April 10, 1798. The suretor was William Snodgrass, the minister Richard Swift, bond #1b107.[1] and (2) Mary Hendrix (1790-1850) in 1814 Bedford, Tennessee.

Census Records

(1830 Census of Jackson County, Alabama.) Stephen's household consisted of 1 male under 5, 1 male between 5 and 9, 2 males 10 to 14, 1 male 50 to 59, 1 female under 5, and 1 female 30 to 39.[2]

(1840 Census of Jackson County, Alabama.) The household consisted of 2 males 10 to 14, 2 males 15 to 19, 1 male 60 to 69, 2 females 10 to 14, 1 female 50 to 59.[3].

(1850 Census of Jackson County, Alabama.) Stephen aged 77 lived with his two youngest children Susan aged 17 and Mary aged 22.[4]

Land

On August 23, 1817, Stephen purchased 4 acres in Bedford County, Tennessee in the 2nd District on the water Ducks River.[5].

On May 20, 1831, Stephen was issued 80 acres in Alabama (1E1/2NW Huntsville No 3S 4E 2, doc #2667.[6]

Death

Stephen Kennedy was buried in the Latham Cemetery in Jackson County, Alabama.[7]
