He married his third cousin Alice Wilkie on 26 November 1938 in Gaffney, South Carolina. [5][6][7][8] They share the same second great grandparents James Wilkie and Miranda Collins. Together they had the following children:
He passed away on 7 August 1993 in Charlotte, North Carolina and was buried in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery in Forest City, North Carolina. [9][10][3]
