Private Obediah Kempton served with Bristol County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

Obediah was born about 1762. He was the son of Ephraim Kempton and Anna Nye. He passed away in 1831.

Marriage

First: Obed married Ruth Smith on April 20, 1783, at Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts. Ruth was born in March, 1767, in Dartmouth; she was the daughter of Jonathan Smith and Sylvia Howland. She died on October 17, 1829, in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts.

Second: Obed married Sally (Sarah) Cardy, widow of Henry Cardy, on October 12, 1830, in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts. Sally was born about 1792, and died in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, on August 24, 1838. There are no known children of Obed and Sally.

  2. Phebe, born about 1786, in New Bedford, Massachusetts; marriage intention in Providence, Rhode Island, on November 4, 1804, to Samuel James. She died on December 4, 1867, in New Bedford, Massachusetts
  3. Ezra, born May 21, 1790, in New Bedford, Massachusetts; married December 15, 1816, Sarah Bly, at New Bedford. He died in December, 1860
  4. Hannah, born in New Bedford, Massachusetts; married October 8, 1807, Timothy Delano, at New Bedford. She died September 6, 1830, at New Bedford
  5. Isaac S., born about 1792, in New Bedford, Massachusetts; married December 23, 1833, Hannah Ryder Stetson, at New Bedford. He died January 1852, in New Bedford, Massachusetts
