Lieutenant James Kempton served with Bristol County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

James Kempton of Dartmouth served in the Revolutionary War as a Sergeant in Capt. Daniel Egery's company of Minute-men, which marched April 21, 1775, in response to the alarm of April 19, 1775, and as 2d Lieutenant in Capt. Henry Jenne's (12th) company, 2d Bristol County regiment of Massachusetts militia in 1779, and as a Lieutenant in Capt. Henry Jenne's company, Col. John Hathaway's (2d Bristol County) regiment in 1780 on an alarm at Rhode Island, and again in 1781. [1] [2]

James Kempton was born about 1748 in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts Bay, son of William Kempton and Mary Brewster.

James (23) and Phebe Stoddard (21) were married on April 9, 1772 in Dartmouth, MA.

Phebe was born about 1750. She was the daughter of Noah Stoddard.

Their children were:

  3. Sarah Kempton, b. 1776.
  4. Thomas Kempton, b. 1778.
  5. Daniel Kempton, b. 1780.

James died on January 11, 1816 in Dartmouth, aged about 67.

He was buried in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet, Massachusetts. [3]
