Television writer, producer, and former attorney
David was born in 1956. He played for the Princeton Tigers men's ice hockey team at Princeton University where he served as team captain and graduated in 1979 with a bachelor's degree. He was drafted in the tenth round of the WHA World Hockey Association draft by the Cincinnati Stingers in 1977. He obtained his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the Boston University School of Law and practiced as an attorney. He married Michelle Pfeiffer on 20 November 1993 in Santa Barbara, California, United States.[1]
He has created and/or produced a number of television series including Doogie Howser, M.D., Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, The Practice and its spin-off Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, Goliath, Big Little Lies, and Big Sky. While the executive producer of L.A. Law, he received two Emmys for Outstanding Writing in a Dramatic Series and the show received the award for Outstanding Drama Series for both years. The Practice would be the first of four successful series by Kelley that were set in Boston. The Practice won two Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series. Ally McBeal lasted five seasons and it won seven Emmys including one for Outstanding Comedy Series for its second season. Boston Legal received a Peabody Award in 2005 for its signature political commentaries.
