He met Dorothy Abbot,t daughter of Hon Aubrey Abbott in Australia, engaged in 1940. In 1938 he flew from Egypt to Darwin 7,258 miles non stop. He had the rank of Air Commodore. He died on January 3, 1990 in Hastings and Rother, East Sussex
