Biography

Oline Karlsdatter and her twin brother, Bernhard, were born on 22 April 1886 at Midtholmsvald, Verdal to Karl Karlsson and Grethe Andorsdatter Skavhaug. In 1891, Oline was being cared for by Hans Olsen Tømte in Småengan, and in 1900 she worked in Vest-Hallen. She called herself Oline Hellan when, as a maid at Leklem in 1911, she married Johan Gerhard Bernhardussen Fleskhus (Bakken), born 1887, from Breigutu in Bjørga.^[1] They ran the small farm Bakke under Leklem and had three children before the husband died of the Spanish flu in 1918. Oline Bakken worked a lot as a company cook. She died in 1970. They had 3 children: Birger, b. 1911; Alf, born 1913; and Gunvor Marie, b. 1917.^[2]
