Hi Joan,

I get lots of correspondence from the overall England team, and I like being informed of what’s going on there. I am on the Devon team and Cornwall team but I don’t see the same kinds of thing coming in emails. Maybe there is not much traffic there, or maybe it’s all on Discord. However, I get so much coming to me from discord that I can’t possibly keep up with it. (I’m also on the Scotland team so it comes from both sources). I’m not sure whether it’s a me problem or a process problem. I would probably contribute more if I heard more from those teams via email. I’m more interested in those areas because I have ancestors from there.

I would rank Cornwall over Devon I think. Regards, Jamie

Hi Amelia, thanks for reaching out.

I'm interested in working with the county team for Cornwall, assuming they cover Devon also. I thought I had expressed that wish, but if there is any periodic correspondence, I haven't been getting any from people in that team. Maybe I need to look for it on Discord and follow it there? Regards, Jamie

Hi Jamie,

We actually have a separate team which covers Devon; we have individual teams for all of the historical counties, although some may be combined with others for historical and logistical reasons (such as County Durham and Tyne & Wear or Cheshire and Merseyside). Correspondence is generally up to the team leader for each team; some TLs will regularly keep in contact, and others will mostly operate on a "here if you need me" kind of basis.

In our records, it looks as if you're down as a member of the Devon county team. Did you receive any initial correspondence from Oscar Evans, the current team leader?

Regards, Amelia

Great, I see his email to me now and I will get connected there. What about Cornwall?

Hi Joan,

My apologies for my delayed reply. I was away fishing, with no internet! Normally I am on wikitree pretty much daily. Yes, I'm content, I was just assigned a new trailblazer for Orphan trail 2, so I'm looking forward to learning more about earlier sources. Regards, Jamie

Thanks for getting back to me Jamie,

Good luck with OT2. I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Jamie

Just a reminder that for pre-1700 profiles you should always add reliable sources when you create them. At the moment you've got four generations of the Calder family born in 1739 back to 1663 without a source - neither the name of a website nor a family tree is a reliable source for profiles going that far back (see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources)

Quite right, and I have more than those too. I’ve been working on orphan trail 1 for the past few months, so I’ve been well indoctrinated into the need for proper sources. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi, Jamie

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Belated thank you, Sheryl. I’ve been attuned to the error of my ways and am in the process of “drinking the kool-aid”; I have just completed England’s Orphan Trail 1 and am sorely embarrassed that I have made so many profiles without adequate sources. I have started to fix these as time allows. I have still come up against some brick walls. When this happens, and I have had no results from my usual search methods, is it ok to ask for that kind of help in the G2G forum? - Jamie
