Biography

James was born in 1884 in Mullaghdoo, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of John Kane and Eliza Long and the birth was registered by Lizzie Kane of Mullaghdoo.^[1] He was baptised on 23-Jul-1884 in 1st Islandmagee Presbyterian Church.^[2]

On August 14th, 1908 James married Margaret McCartney in the 1st Presbyterian Church in Larne. James was recorded as full age, a bachelor and a mariner residing in Mullaghdubh, Islandmagee. Margaret was recorded as a minor, and a spinster residing in Cloughfin, Islandmagee. The witnesses were Andrew Nelson and Mary Agnes McCartney.^[3]

He died in 1957 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.^[4] He is interred in the Kane Family Plot in Ballykeel Graveyard, in Islandmagee.^[5]

Thomas Nelson Kane no father listed on his birth record, found under Thomas McCartney, mother Margaret McCartney born July 18th, 1908 birth record https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1908/01648/1658167.pdf He is also interred with his parents in Ballykeel Graveyard, Islandmagee. Thomas passed away February 22nd, 1967. No official passing record found, yet. Also his wife Josephine interred in same plot, passed away August 8th, 1977. Have not found marriage record, yet. The gravestone inscription and photo will need to be added to Thomas and Josephine's profiles when they are created.

   In loving memory of mother Margaret Roberta (Smoite) Kane died 18th Nov. 1939. Also her husband James died 21st August 1957 aged 73 years. Their son Thomas Nelson (M. Mariner) died 22nd February 1967. And his beloved wife Josephine died 8th August 1977. Gone to be with Christ, which is far better.
