Biography

Matilda Harriet "Hallie" was a child found in both parents' and grandmother's 1880 census. Grandmother Harriett is living with John and Hallie in 1900 census.

Descendant Lee Sturma provided images and information about her to Clinton Slayton.

Hallie married John J Hartman, ^{[citation needed]} a first-generation American of German parents, many of whom settled in Ripley County, Indiana.

Their children surmised from census: Geneva, Vera, Marian (female) and Bonnie Hartman. Although Bonnie does not appear in the 1910 census, she does appear in the January 1920 household of her father and his second wife, Anna, and is reported aged 11 (~1909).

Research Notes

Hallie and her mother were characterized in a pension application for her grandmother as congenitally "tubercular," perhaps contributing to her early death, but this is unproven until a death cert is found.
