Biography

Elizabeth Jones was born on 7 September 1801 in Ohio County, Virginia, of unknown parents.

On 8 November 1827, when she was twenty-six, she married William Morgan in Ohio County.

On 4 September 1860, a few days before her fifty-ninth birthday, she died in Washington, D.C., of unknown causes.

Bio: "On the 4th inst. At half past 6 o'clock p.m. after an illness of 33 hours, Elizabeth Bartholomew, consort of William S. Morgan in the 59th year of his age. For her death had no sting. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend her funeral without further notice from the residence of Mr. Morgan, No. __, 12th st., between J and K sts. On Thursday, the 6th instant at 10 o'clock a.m."Elizabeth was the daughter of Morgan and Sarah (Griffith) Jones. She had 9 siblings. Her grandfather was the Revolutionary War Patriot, David Jones. He was a Baptist reverend and surgeon during the war. On 8 Nov 1826 she married William S. Morgan. The couple had 5 children: Sarah Ann, Elizabeth Willey, Mary Jane, George Hopkins and Robert Sommerville. Her husband Morgan served multiple terms as a US congressman and other state elected offices.
