Biography

Patrick Jones has Welsh ancestors.

Patrick Jone's ancestors hailed from Wales; they most likely immigrated to county Kerry during the Plantation period. They most likely were Protestant settlers at one time that intermarried with Irish Catholic families. Patrick Jones or his father ^[1] was born in or near Derryco, a small hamlet outside of Ballyduff. Sometime before 1820, the Jones family was evicted from lands in Derryco owned by the Stoughton family, the landlords, for non-payment of rent. ^[2]They settled along the river banks of Gortacrissane, specifically on the banks of the Guyanne. ^[2][3] They are not listed in the Tithes Applotment Books of 1823-1837 so the Jones family were likely a family of tenant farmers. ^[2]

Many of Pat Jones' children are listed in the Listowel Catholic baptism records as being born in Greenville.

Patrick Jones is listed as a tenant in the Griffith's Land Valuation between 1847 to 1864. ^[4]. He was leasing a house and land in Gortacrossane, Listowel, Kerry ^[5]. He married Margaret Kennelly, presumably of Greenville, Listowel or Gortacrossane, before 1820. They lived in Scartleigh and Greenville, Listowel, Kerry before 1847 because their children were born there. They were the parents of, at least, seven known children (not in chronological order):

5. Margaret Jones
6. James Jones
7. Patrick Jones (marked uncertain) who married Margaret Latch.
8. William Jones (certain) born March 1835. Immigrated to Illinois, settled in Kansas by August 1868. A family bible stated that William Jones was the son of Patrick Jone and Margaret "Kinnealy". Married Johanna Kane in Macoupin county, Illinois on 5 Mar 1859^[6]

Assumption is that Patrick Jones was a farmer and died in Gortacrossane as one of his son lived there afterwards.^[7][8][9]

Death

Presumably at home. There are registrations for a couple Patrick Jones, age 80, that died in the same locale but no way yet of knowing which is him without furthering research^[10][11]

However, recently came across a newer index for Irish deaths in civil and believe this is his death record because it lists Gortocrossane, Listowel, Kerry as place of death.^[12]
