Delia Jones was born about 1787. Her husband was James Strudwick Smith.
Her father, Francis Jones, left his plantation in Chatham called The Grove to Delia's husband, James S Smith. On her death, her father's will stipulated that all slaves would go to his grandchildren: Francis J Smith; James S Smith and Mary R Smith. His will also requested that the plantation in Orange County which Francis Jones had given to James Strudwick Smith be willed to Mary R Smith upon James' death. The will was signed in 1841 and proved in 1844.[1]
