Hi Elizabeth

Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. It normally takes 24 hours from adding a test, or adding a new ancestor, or ancestor’s descendant, for WikiTree to display your name and test results on your ancestors and their descendants’ profiles for potential cousins to compare results with.

Have fun!

Wendy ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hello Wendy,

Thank you for reaching out, But, I didn't add my DNA. Oh, I tried, I tried very hard. It was so confusing, even after following directions. I can't find anywhere on my DNA what I'm supposed to put into your areas' that you ask. I worked several hours reading and looking and trying. At one point I misunderstood the button for submission for another action and it said thank you for submitting. There was nothing there. I want to put in my DNA that I have from Ancestry.com and/or 23andMe, I have both, but between WikiTree, and those two, can't find where to look for what WikiTree wants. So, you are kind to welcome me an give me encouragement, but it was blank and I'm frustrated and I can't figure out how to do it and I am a 3-college degree lady. hahahaha, -Elizabeth

Ok, well I was going by the DNA badge, but I can help with that. For your Ancestry test, you need to add your Ancestry User ID. If you don’t know it off hand, log into Ancestry. In the top right corner, click your name and in the drop down, click ‘Your Account’. Under Your Account, your Username will be displayed. That is the name you need to add to WikiTree for your Ancestry DNA Test, I believe.

Go to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:DNATests and click ‘Edit or Enter More Details, and add your ancestry username next to Ancestry.

I expect 23andMe will also require a username, I expect.

I hope that helps. Let me know, if you still have problems.

Wendy

Hello Wendy,

I did as you instructed. I still find it not user friendly and I believe I did all the steps properly. Ancestry, 23andMe as well as here, WikiTree, not user friendly when trying to put in the information on the DNA. With your assistance I believe I did it correctly, but there is no way of knowing. Thank you ever so much. God Bless, Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth, if you look at some of the profiles on your tree, you will see your details and test displayed on the right. I looked at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Johnson-91085 and can see your test details there. This is so potential cousins can compare their results with yours.

Wendy

I see what you have described. I did it!! Wow, I'm impressed. Thanks for your guidance. I could not have done that without you. Thank you.
Yay! Glad I could help

Wendy xo

When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than us. — Russell M Nelson

Thank you Mindy for your warm welcome and concern. I do like how easy it is to add my ancestors. I also like how it can be easy to find that others that have input their/your ancestor because you share this ancestor. The problem I am encountering is that people get upset with me when I update the correct information. I will not join with an ancestral tree already committed if I didn't see that it is my ancestor. I then correct the misinformation I see. I do this because I have the documentation showing the truth. I don't change just on hearsay or stories from the past. I actually un-linked with another ancestral tree here because her sources were no longer available. Every source I chose said that the information I was seeking was no longer available. I reached out to the person who added in their ancestor and explained the problem. I asked for a copy of the documentation so I could connect us. I noticed the last time this person was on the tree was in 2013. I was surprised I got a reply. This person abandoned the Wiki Tree. She said that she was tired of the forced connection to other trees because the information matched others and people going in and changing her information on her ancestors when she knew she had the accurate information for she had documentation. She did not offer me what I requested from her so, I am not connecting my tree to hers because I don't have documentation and she didn't prove hers to me, she abandoned it. I have had people change my information to wrong information as well. I go back and fix it and explain I have the documentation and to not change it.

I understand the direction WikiTree wants to go, to show we are all related in some way, but there are many uneducated people out there regarding genealogy and they are taking work done by a trained genealogist and someone who has been doing this for over 30 years and changing the data to incorrect information. I will not be adding anymore ancestors nor live people on here. It's too risky for wrong information getting out into the world and the genealogy world will be a mess. It's already heading there. I have to say that I am disappointed at how easy it is to go in and change someone's hard work. It doesn't matter that you have attached the proper source. They just change it.

Welcome! We are so happy to have you here in the WikiTree community! I am pleased to confirm you as a member, and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

Hello. Thank you. I am not new to Genealogy. I have 38 years experience. I am new hear, to WikiTree. I'm here to make sure there is accuracy. I've seen close family members on here with errors and I want them corrected. I want to help people know how serious it is to not search out the proper information, documentation before posting it for the world to see. I want to help them fix their tree where I see errors. Thank you for the warm welcome.
Welcome!
