In all of my research your name keeps popping up. And you don’t have any cited sources? Where are you getting this information? Just making it up?

Where are all your sources? You have really confused a lot of people and a lot of trees with all of your unsourced connections.

Hi Linda:

It looks like we're connected through the McLaughlin's. Its not a super close connection but thought I would mention that I've long been in search of a photo of Margaret McLaughlin and Frank Kohl/Cole. Its the one photo missing among the Cole siblings. If you happen to have come across one, I would be grateful for a copy.

posted by M Cole
Hello, M.,

What I have for sure are photos of my great aunt Agnes and great uncle Leland as children who Margaret "Maggie" McLaughlin and Frank Kohl/Cole took in after their mother died. Back in the late 1980s, Agnes took my family to see the outside of Margaret and Frank's home in Lewiston, ID. Both she and her sister Gertrude, my grandmother, shared fond memories of Aunt Margaret and Uncle Frank with me.

Yes, if I come across a photo of them, I'll share a copy with you!

Cheers,

Linda

Hello Linda. I hope I am posting in the correct area.

I was wondering if the Woodson's you are tracing are the same Woodsons that are my direct ancestors, starting with William Norman Woodson, Daisy Ruth Woodson, John Wesley Woodson, etc

Thank you, Donna

Hello, Donna,

Welcome to WikiTree! Yes, I'm working on some of the same Woodsons. To help you with your Woodson family, I created a profile for your Daisy Ruth Woodson and connected her to her Woodson ancestors.

I also orphaned the profiles I created, so you can adopt them as a profile manager and continue your research.

Hopes that helps!

All the best,

Linda

Thank you Linda. I appreciate your hard work. We pretty much have most of that info. What we're really trying to figure out is who Daisy Woodson was married to, specifically, the father of William Norman Woodson Sr. (my maternal Grandfather). Most of WM Woodson's records were supposedly lost in a fire that burned down the school he was going to as a teenager, and from what Mom says he never wanted anyone to know of his upbringing. We have a man named David King, but we cannot find anything on this person. She may not have even been married to this man. It is rumored that Daisy may have had 2 or more other spouses and maybe even messed around some, but those are just inside family stories/rumors....

Again Thanks, Donna

Hi Linda,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles!

It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hello,

i have received notice that you deleted the biological parents of Mary Ethel (Unknown) Jackson which I recently discovered on the Find a Grave website and added to her profile. I could not edit the 'last name at birth' and failed to seek help from those knowledgeable. Are you one who could make this change from Unknown to Knight?

posted by Gayle Black
Hello, Gayle,

I'm so sorry to have to tell you this, but these are two different women. Your Mary Ethel (Unknown) Jackson was born in 7 Jun 1897 in Texas and died in Nov 1972 in Colorado. Mary Ethel (Knight) Tarbutton was born in 29 Apr 1897 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas, and died on 14 Apr 1973 in Tarrant County, Texas.

You're asking me to merge two women with different vital statistics. You need to provide more sources that prove otherwise.

Linda

posted by Linda (Johnson) Leslie
Hi Linda,

No, I am not asking for a merge. Mary Ethel seemed to be a popular name among those Knights! My interest is solely in Mary Ethel Knight Jackson. Mary Ethel Tarbutton's parents were listed on her Texas, US Death Certificate as Keener and Elizabeth (Coker) Knight. The names deleted from Mary Ethel Jackson's profile were listed on her Find a Grave Index, Judge Martin and Sarah (Windham) Knight, as her parents. I have no clue if Keener and Judge Martin Knight were related. My original question still stands. Would you be one who could add Knight to Mary Ethel Jackson's profile as 'last name at birth'?

Hello, Gayle,

I'm the one, and it's done when Mary Ethel is merged.

Hi Linda,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist. Your Watchlist has 16346 profiles. This is very large. Our systems are designed to handle 5,000. Contributing to more than 5,000 profiles is great (the community thanks you for it!) but don't feel you have to keep so many on your Watchlist. Despite the terminology, there is no shame in "orphaning" Open profiles. :-) This invites others to share responsibility. Since you have more than 10,000, Bulk Trusted List changes tool may not work for you. If so, please contact [email address removed] for help reducing your Watchlist.

I am confused by a change that you just made adding Lucy (Cornish) Case (1735-) as the mother of Abijah Case (1763-1832). Do you have a source? There is no source on the profile for Abijah for his mother, and even the grave memorial (which itself would not be a source) does not mention the mother. Further, there is no mention of Abijah on Lucy's profile. Why did you make this connection?
posted by Kay (Sands) Knight
Hello, Kay,

Good question! FamilySearch.org shows him as a child of Ezekiel Case and Lucy (Cornish) Case. But the fact that Hosea Wilcox was present at the marriage of Abijah Case and Thankful Cowles indicates a family connection to Job Case.

More research needed!

So in that case, rather than making the connection it would be appropriate to add a Research Notes to the profile (or both profiles) but don't make the connection, instead state that more research is needed.

Okay, I'll copy and paste my response to you in Abijah's profile.

I'm confused. You have Mary C. Staggs as dying in 1840 in SC, but her husband William died in 1815 in Ohio. I realized she could have gone back to SC to live with a child, but is that the case. Also, you have Nancy (Staggs) Orr listed as a daughter of William, but not as a daughter of Mary C (Youngblood), who was apparently his wife. My birthdate of 1777 for Nancy could not be correct if William and Mary did not marry until 1792. Do you know the correct birthdate? Thanks for any help you can give me. Noland 588.
posted by Linda (Noland) Layman
Hello, Linda,

Like you, I am unsure of the birthdate of Nancy Staggs. FamilySearch.org indicates that she was born in the state of Maryland in 1777.

I think the note you wrote on WikiTree to accompany the profile of Nancy Staggs is adequate.

If the FamilySearch.org info is correct, I'm still not sure that Nancy is the daughter of Mary C. Youngblood, who was born in South Carolina. Mary's profile provides no evidence of giving birth in Maryland. Therefore, I have removed Mary as Nancy's mother.

Hope that helps!

Hello there! I believe that you have helped create the profiles for some of my ancestors back in Summer 2021. I wanted to ask you some questions regarding Tarleton (Talton) Knight, Henry Louis Knight, and Jesse Solomon Knight, as I am unsure of a couple of things regarding these three. This website is telling me one story and Ancestry is telling me another. I was wondering if you could help me figure out the truth of who I am related to? Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you have a blessed day!

I approved the Ruth Knight merge, but then proceeded to really mess things up by adding some relationships and several sources before the other profile manager had approved the merge. Ended up with her having a new profile number Knight-25789 and appearing as her own sister of Knight-17441. I have sent a message to the other profile manager requesting her to approve merge still pending to sort out this split-personality situation I have created, but if you have other suggestions I would appreciate them!

Armistead Redding information regarding parents is WRONG on Find a Grave. His father was Issac Redding and mother wrong too. He and Polly married in Kentucky before blazing the path along Fountain Creek near Culleoka...buried at site of family farm. The history of Kentucky Baptists book stated Joseph was his father, but he was his uncle. Issac is his father and Timothy his grandfather.

Hi Linda, i noticed you connected a father (James Preston Knight) to my "brick wall" ggm (Mahalalin Knight Dixon). She was adopted and all i know is that her death certificate states father is James Knight; mother is "unknown." My oldest, living, aunt recalls stories of "Haley" being of mixed race; always feeling rejected by both races, and adopted by the "Knights." Do you believe this is the correct connection you have made? Sources?----Becky Roberts

Hello, Becky,

I've added sources from both FamilySearch.org and FindAGrave.com, along with posting Haley's death certificate that states, as you mentioned, her father was James Knight. Haley's birthdate of 9 Apr 1872 and James Preston Knight's marriage date of 18 Nov 1872 seemed to connect.

Family anecdotal information is also important. I would suggest that your next move in breaking down your "brick wall" would to be take a DNA test and see if you share DNA with James Preston Knight.

If you don't, we can remove Haley as his daughter.

All the best,

Linda

Hello, Jeff,

Thank you so much for allowing me to join your Trusted List! I never knew my grandfather, Abner Knight, but at least I found my first cousin via genealogy, and she has been so helpful these past 21 years!

Thanks again!

Mary Stevenson

I have removed Mary Stevenson as a spouse of James. James was still married to Ann when he passed away and she is mentioned in his Will, not Mary!

Hello, Loretta,

Did you mean you removed Mary Stevenson as a spouse of Joseph Brown? I don't see any James there!

All the best,

Linda

Yes, you are correct. It was late and I started mixing up James and Joseph.

Joseph Brown

I am also removing Joseph Brown, no documentation. James had a son named Joseph but he was born in 1801 and died in 1852.

Hello again, Loretta,

I have attached the correct Joseph Brown, Jr., b. 1801, d. 1852, to the correct Joseph Brown, Sr., and added documentation.

Hope that helps!

I am removing Nancy as a child of James Brown, no documentation. James had a daughter but her name was Elizabeth and was born in 1798.

James C Brown

I see you have been adding parents, removing parents and adding parents again to James Brown. I am removing the last parent you added because there is not any documentation supporting that he is Charity's son. No, her father's Will does not mean she had a child named James. Since he is in my Direct Line, I prefer to wait until we can find solid evidence of parentage.

Hi. Thanks for your work in adding sources to the Zachariah Dutton family. I would like to remove the name PENN, though, as the name at birth of Unknown (Penn) Dutton (bef.1760-abt.1797), Zachariah Dutton's wife. This is unsupported by any record or primary source, and is more than likely untrue. I know the assertion is rampant in family trees posted online, but that doesn't make it true. I've requested to be added to the trusted list for Mrs. Dutton. Could you help me? I'd appreciate your response. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggested merge, i am new to this and I am not sure how to combine all that information. I agree with merge, but i need someone smarter than me to do it.....the Benjamin adams merge.
Hey Linda,

The Franks Family Bible has also been transcribed with Nehemiah Franks information as well as information for his children.

But Wait! Are there two separate Nehemiah Franks in Laurens at the same time? Two different burials - [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/9464846/nehemiah-franks Franks-Simmons Family Cemetery Laurens, Laurens County] this cemetery is located within forest Lawn Cemetery and has not been damaged and [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/152971432/nemiah-franks Franks (Nemiah) Cemetery, Wattsville, Laurens County] The description for this one states Road Construction damaged the headstones and graves.

This may be what is making things "off".

Linda,

Lucy Davis (Davis-80506) appears to be a match with your Lucy Davis. I believe these two need to be merged, but I am unsure how to do this as the profile says it is a "pending proposed merge" Any ideas?

Hi Linda,

Thanks for all your work on WikiTree. I noticed that you have begun adding profiles for the pre-1700 ancestors you have found in your search at FamilySearch.

Since you are now back in the time period where many people can be descended from those ancestors, we need more details in your source area. As collaborative genealogists, we need to tell each other our sources so that we can work together to assess the relative reliability of the source and the evidence it contains. The Sources - Examples section more fully explains what information needs to be included in source citations for pre-1700 profiles.

Profiles on other websites are not considered sufficient sources to create pre-1700 profiles. If the FamilySearch profiles have sources, please be sure to copy them to the profiles at the time of creation. If they don't have sources, please don't create the profiles until you can find a reliable source.

Thanks,

Debi

Please don't merge the two Joseph Hopewells or the two Athaleah Adamses as proposed. The Josephs have conflated father and son and the Athaleahs have conflated two women. I am too ill right now to unravel this mess, but it is very high on my list of things to do as soon as I am well enough to concentrate. This entire line is entangled now.

Thank you for adding the marriage of Elizabeth Gillett to John King Hathaway.

Just curious ... did you have a source for this information ... or try to find a source?

It took a while to find one. Tried both Family Search and Ancestry without success. Then finally found a indexed record on NEHGS which cites volumes NB1 and KL. Whatever that means?

Where else can I look?

HI Linda,

On the profiles for John Safford and John Safford, you added the suffixes of Sr. & Jr. Is there a document you can identify for me that calls them so, or is it simply an assumption? I generally don't use a suffix unless it's documented that the person used it. See: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Name_Fields#Suffix Generally we don't make unsourced changes to pre-1700 profiles that we don't manage without consulting with the PM. Thanks, Bobbie
