Research Notes

Note 1: The evidence that Milas and Mary Polly are Margaret A Johnson's parents is actually rather weak. We know they had a daughter named Margaret Johnson in 1840 or 1841 in Missouri, and that she still lived with her parents during the 1860 census in Monroe County, Missouri. The first record of a Margaret Johnson Smith was in the Marriage Record in Monrow Missouri in 3 Mar 1864. It is possible that this Margaret Johnson is a different person than Margaret Johnson Smith.

Note 2: The records of "Margrette Johnson" in familysearch.org are inconsistent, but her last child (Mary Magdalene) was born in 1873 in Missouri. That is the last record of her. Nine years later husband, Joseph Smith, married Devira Yeakey in Monroe Missouri, and they later moved to Leavenworth, WA. Some records say Margrette died 29 Jun 1922 in Leavenworth WA, but that is the date and location of the death of Joseph. I suspect Margrette died between 1873 and 1882 in Missouri. So, at this time an estimate of date of death is 1875.

Note 3: The spelling of her first name is not consistent in the sources. For instance, Margaret is used here, and Margrett is used here.
