I am trying to pin down my father, who I did not know, but through DNA matches is likely a descendant or Mathias Baltes. I have autosomal matches with Mathias and fifteen people on Ancestry.

Hello, Raymond!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s VERY IMPORTANT to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

I wanted to ask about a road block I have encountered in trying to fill out my family tree on WikiTree. It has happened on two branches. I was filling out the branch occupied by J. Cornelius Haynes, one of the two people responsible for the affidavit you kindly put (somewhere) on WikiTree. His daughter Eulalia Haynes married James Douglas Washington and had a daughter Marion Letitia Washington. I also encountered Letitia when filling out the Washington line. Her profile has been started by Bobbie Bailey in 2013, but is very incomplete. I cannot connect to Letitia as I am not on the trusted list. I asked to be added twice, each time I ran into the obstacle, but have not had a reply. I would appreciate any help you can give.

Where do I add the sticker, or how do I add it to my profile?
posted by Raymond Johnson
Hi Raymond, if you go to this link, you'll see a sticker code inside the squiggly brackets. I can't copy it here or all you'll see is the sticker. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Black_Heritage:_Connecting_Challenge#Challenge_Stickers

copy/paste that code anywhere beneath the biography heading on your profile.

I am participating, as I mentioned in my email to you, in the August USBH Connect-a-Thon (Challenge?), but I must have done something wrong because I did not see updates to the challenge trackers. I am not interested in competing, but want to be sure that the Connect-a-Thon gets credit for the new profiles and connections.

I also have two other questions. A family member currently in the tree, Tip Hines, died without a will (intestate). There was a court document kept by a family member that listed all of his relatives for the purpose of dividing his estate. I have a Word copy, which I could add to Tip's biography, but the document is so long, I am not sure if that is the best thing to do.What is the best way to leave a copy available in case others want to work on adding the people cited in the probate record?. Is it legitimate to cite it as a source?

I also will need some help because one of the people mentioned was a slave who sired three children with Flora Clayton. I will add her three children (I have found some sources for two of the three), but would appreciate advice about how to treat the father who is only referred to in the legal document as a slave who fathered the children.

Hi Raymond, I'll send you a private message with answers for you. Emma
Here are the relevant paragraphs from the probate record:

That we each know of our own knowledge that Joe Hinds was married once and only once and that was to Flora Robinson Hines. However, Flora had been married before. It was a slavery time marriage to a man named Robinson, but her first husband Robinson had been sold, carried away and never heard of again. I have heard this story many times.

Flora Robinson had had three children and only three children by her first marriage to Robinson. These three along with the nine born of her marriage to Joe Hinds were the only children she ever had. She and Robinson did not ever adopt any. The three children born of her marriage to her first husband, Robinson, were as follows: 1. Alfred Robinson, who sold his interest to Charles Houston. 2. Tira Robinson Wshington, wife of Silas Washington. When Tira Robinson Washington was a widow, she sold her interest in the Joe Hinds 200 acre tract to Reuben Hines. 3. Joe Robinson
