From the Census data of 1850 and 1860, it is safe to assume his birth was in the year 1780. Until closer inspection of the probate records is possible, the year of death is estimated to be between 2 Dec 1861 to 22 Jan 1863 which are the dates of the recording his will in the Township office and his official probate in Dover Township, Ocean, New Jersey. The most logical guess is 1862.

Cedar Swamp lying north of the road to go with and remain for use of the old place. Son, Joel, blacksmith tools, he having had is share of the land. To 6 daughters, Naomi Winner, Sarah Johnston, Hannah Ashton, Lucretia Smith, Elizabeth Smith and Lida Shumand, all moveable estate to be equally divided except 1 bed and bedding which is to be given to Elizabeth Phillips.

Research Notes

It is possible that the first wife of Joseph is Hannah Phillips. It is known that Hannah's father was named Richard. More research will be needed to cement this relationship.

Joseph's second wife is less documented right now. Also the bio text is in a jumble. It will take a while before this profile is ship-shape.
