Biography

Born "Peder Anton Johnson", but typically went by Peter Johnson. He is the son of Lars Johnson and Anne Maria Pederson.

Married Augusta Pederdotter Rensvolden (or Rensvold?) July 9, 1882 at Lake Park Lutheran church in Wentworth South Dakota.

His confirmation was done September 12, 1857 at Decorah Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran in Decorah, Iowa.

1880 United States Federal Census shows him as single at age 22, living in Lake, Dakota Territory, USA, and "Works On Farm". He was living with his parents at the time.

1900 United States Federal Census shows him age 42, married (to Augusta Johnson) , living in Rutland, Lake, South Dakota, and a naturalized citizen (36 years in the US). His occupation if farmer and can read, write, and speak English. His wife is listed as Augusta Johnson. His children are Laura A Johnson (age 16), Melvin Johnson (age 11), Victor Johnson (age 8), George Johnson (age 6), John Johnson (age 4), and Dora Johnson (age 2). His mother-in-law, Matilda Peterson (age 72), is also living in the household.

1910 United States Federal Census shows him age 52 and living in Rutland, Lake, South Dakota, USA. His occupation is farmer. His children is listed as Alfred M Johnson (age 21), Victor A Johnson (age 19), Georgina A Johnson (age 16), Hjalmer A Johnson (age 14), Dora A Johnson (age 11), and Mildred Johnson (age 6).

1920 United States Federal Census shows him age 62 and living in Madison Ward 1, Lake, South Dakota (5th St. N.W., house number 418). His children are listed as Dora A Johnson (age 21) and Clara M Johnson (age 16).

Obituary published May 12, 1927 read:

P. A. Johnson, father of Mrs. Ole Moe, died at his home in Madison Thursday morning after a long illness. Mr. Johnson was one of the pioneers of Lake county. The funeral was held Monday, Rev. C. M. Austin, of the Colman Lutheran church preaching the sermon.
