Biography

Mary Elizabeth Jefferies was born in Abbeville County, South Carolina to William Corry Jefferies and Millicent Goudelock; she is the 9th of 10 children between their union. Her mother died when Mary was about 2 years old, and she was mostly raised by her father's second wife, Evaline Wilkins. She has 5 additional half-siblings. Mary married William O. Kay; they had 8 known children. Her husband died in 1884, and she married James Marion on 15 January 1889 in Smith County, Texas.^[1] Mary died on 5 March 1892 in Starrville, Texas. She is buried at Starrville Cemetery.^[2]
