Biography

Flora was born October 30, 1880 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Her parents were John R Jacobs and Maggie E (Martor) Jacobs.^[1]

Flora married Samuel Levy, a Lithuanian immigrant, in 1905 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States^[2] and they had at least seven children (see Notes).

In 1910, Flora (age 28) and Sam (age 35) lived at 328 Green Street in Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States with children Frank (age 3), Rosie (age 2), and Lena (age 0). Samuel was a shoemaker and had his own repair shop.^[3]

In 1920, Flora (age 40) and Samuel (age 44) lived at 316 Chester Street in Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States with children Frank (age 13), Rosa (age 11), Leona (age 10), and Tillie (age 8), Harry (age 6), and Helen (age 5). Samuel was a shoemaker and had his own shop.^[4]

In 1930, Flora (age 50) and Samuel (age 54) lived at 28 Conestoga Street in Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States with children Rose (age 21), Leona (age 20), Tillie (age 18), Harry (age 17), Helen (age 16), and Bernard (age 5). Samuel was a laborer in a linoleum plant, Flora worked as a saleslady in a grocery store, Rose was a saleslady in a department store, Leona was a stenographer for an alderman, Tillie was a saleslady in a 5&10 store, and Harry was an usher in a theatre.^[5]

In 1940, Flora (shown as Floy, age 62) and Sam (age 64) lived at 722 South Lurie Street with their children Harry (age 27), Helen (age 25) and Bernard (age 15). Sam worked in his own shoemaker shop and Helen was a grocery store cashier.^[6]

Flora died April 27, 1943 and was buried in the Degel Israel Cemetery in Bausman, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States beneath a stone inscribed Wife Of Samuel Levy, Aged 62 Years, Mother.^[7]
