Archibald was born in September 1909 at or about Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Archibald Jackson, was an Australian international cricketer who played eight Test matches as a specialist batsman between 1929 and 1931. He was a teenage prodigy, and had commenced playing first grade cricket at only 15 years of age. He was selected for his First Class debut for New South Wales at 17. In 1929, still only aged 19, Jackson made his Test debut against England at Adelaide from February 01 - 08. Scoring 164 runs in the first innings to become the youngest player to score a Test century. He played his Last Test against the West Indies at Melbourne from February 13 - 14, 1931.Archie Jackson was the first son and third child of Alexander and Margaret Jackson (nee Gillespie). His father had spent part of his childhood in Australia and returned with his family to settle in Balmain, a suburb of Sydney, in 1913.
Archie Jackson passed away in February 1933 at Clayfield in Queensland, Australia from complications from Tuberculosis. But his Funeral at the Field of Mars Cemetery in Ryde, New South Wales drew enormous crowds, with thousands of mourners lining the streets of Sydney for his funeral procession. His Pall Bearers were team mates: Bill Woodfull, Bill Ponsford, Stan McCabe, Bert Oldfield, Vic Richardson and Don Bradman, with Alan Kippax replacing McCabe at the cemetery.
