Biography

From FAG: He was an attorney who practiced Law in Clarksburg (then Virginia). He was married in September 1817 to Julia Beckwith Neale (1798-1831). They had four children: Elizabeth (1819-1826); Warren (1821-1841); Thomas J. (1824-1863), and Laura Ann (1826-1911).

Their son Thomas would become one of the greatest Generals in American History, Lt. General T. J. "Stonewall" Jackson, Confederate States of America.

In March of 1826, Jonathan Jackson and his daughter Elizabeth both died of typhoid fever.

West Virginia Highway Historical Marker number MC-103's inscription reads: "In this cemetery lie buried members of the Stonewall Jackson family: his father Jonathan, a sister Elizabeth, his great grandparents John Jackson and wife Elizabeth Cummings.
