Biography

Graham Irwin is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.
Flag of Hertfordshire (1925, adopted by county 2008)
Graham Irwin was born in Hertfordshire, England.

Donkey's years ago I came across a typed family tree produced by a great aunt even earlier. Whilst it was a great start for my researches, it took me a while to learn not to trust any dates, spelling, even names, without verifying them myself, and to take family "traditions" with a very large pinch of salt!

When I started my research it involved visiting St Catherine's House, Somerset House, the General Record Office and other record centres in central London; it involved pouring over microfiche and learning not to load microfilm readers the wrong way(!) The internet has revolutionised family research.

I found my ancestors came from all parts of England, Wales and Ireland; and later I found a branch of French Huguenots.

I hit a brick wall with my maternal grandfather who vanished without trace in 1927.

Family names I am researching include:

Aaron, Bacon, Bird, Briscoe, Caveler, Cole, Davies, Fell, Fox, Furse, Gearing/Garing, Hamilton, Hind, House/Howse, Houston, Hunt, Irwin, Lacam, Lawson, Lund, Macaree/Macaré, Mann, Moore, Oddboy, Parry, Richardson, Scott, Shearsmith, Simkins, Sparks, Staples, Swindell, Taylor, Tuffnall, Vesey, Wadman, Wiseman.

A DNA test suggests my family origins are 76% England, Wales and Scotland and 24% Scandinavia, although I'm not sure how accurate this is: the same website previously had me 9% British Isles, and I know I have Irish and Huguenot ancestors. More importantly, the DNA suggests my ancestors come from Rathmoyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, and further back that my ancestry comes from Rutledge rather than Irwin, the NPE most likely occurring before c.1600.

Hi Graham,

I haven’t heard back from you about the break up of the United Kingdom Project. I hope all is well with you. I assume you don’t wish to join any of the country-level projects at present, and will go ahead and remove the United Kingdom badge. If you wish to join England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland in the future, you would be most welcome to do so via the respective G2G sign-up post.

Many thanks for all your contributions,

Susie :-)

Hi Graham,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Graham,

On behalf of the England Project Leaders we're carrying out a check-in to see how all the members are doing and taking the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work over the past six months. We have been so impressed with the way everyone has rallied together and gone the extra mile to make this one of the most dedicated, productive and friendly communities on WikiTree. What are you enjoying most about being in the project? What would you like to see improved or changed? Would you like to continue in the project moving forwards?

We're looking forward to hearing back from you,

Hi Graham ,

It's been a year since the England Project was re-ignited. Thank you for being part of this exciting journey!

We really appreciate all your contributions and hard work :)

We would love some feedback from you please. :)

Are you happy contributing with the team you are on, or would you like a change, or even add to another team?

If you are not already on a team, which one would you like to be on?

If you are not sure what is available, just ask, we are here to help :)

Are you still happy contributing to the England Project?

Please PM me through my profile and let me know how you are doing :)

Hi Graham

As Susie mentioned in our newsletter, one of us would check in to see how you are doing, so here I am :)

Firstly on behalf of us all, I would like to say a big thank you for all the hard work you are putting into the Project. Your work on Surrey is greatly appreciated. We would love your feedback and input on what you would like to see happening within the project as we move forward.

Do you have anything special you would like to see in the project, or have something you would like to explore that we can add into the project?

Please feel free to post your thoughts in our Google Group, or you can send me a PM, either will be great.

Thank You

Wendy

Hi

Wish you a Happy New Year. May 2018 bring you all you need to be happy.

Congratulation for adding your contributions in December. Whatever the quantity of your contributions, they all count. As we always say "Quality is better than quantity" to make a great family tree.

Thank you for being a Wikitreer,

Guy Constantineau - Wikitree leader

Hi Graham,

Just dropped by to say hi. I have had a chat with Gillian about where I can assist in the England project and I have been added by Gillian to Surrey as a helper. Is there anything in particular you wish me to look at or is it okay of I start some profile improving. I am already in the UK Data Doctor Team as well as a few other bits and bobs.

Not doing much this week as recovering from some surgery. Look forward to hearing from you

Regards Janet
