CAMERTON, (or Cammerton), a parish in the ward of Allerdale-below-Derwent, in the county of Cumberland, 5 miles to the W. of Cockermouth. Workington is its post town. It is a station on the Cockermouth and Workington railway. The parish is situated on the coast of the Solway Frith, on the N. bank of the river Derwent, which is here crossed by a handsome stone bridge of three arches. It contains the townships of Camerton and Seaton. [Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868).

Coal miner hewer: A hewer (German: Hauer or Häuer) is a miner who loosens rock and minerals in a mine. In medieval mining in Europe a Hauer was the name given to a miner who had passed his test (Hauerprüfung) as a hewer.
