Biography

David Irish was born to Benjamin Irish and Elizabeth West in Pawling, Dutchess County, NY on 21 Dec 1757. He married Mercy Sweet there, and their older children, they had at least 15 together, were also born there. Shortly before 1800, several allied families moved to the Finger Lakes area of NY state, settling on the west side of Cayuga Lake in Scipio and Aurelius in Cayuga County. David's younger children were born here. David was a Baptist minister, and was the founder of many Baptist churches in central and western NY. He died at 58 years, in 1815 and is buried in Galpin Hill Cemetery in Aurelius. Some of his children, particularly the older ones remained in central NY, but a number had migrated to MI and WI by 1840's

David and Mercy Sweet Irish had children: (according to Descendants of John Irish, e-version), in approximately this order. (The Willis Luther Irish Genealogy has several serious errors and omissions. It took years of searching for "evidence" that my gg gf Joseph Eastman Irish, "Eastman" in family records, was his son.)
