Biography

Marie Scholastique was born out of wedlock and her parents are unknown. YOB calculated from age of 70 years at death on 24 Jan 1846.

A girl of unknown parents is born 14 Feb 1764, she is baptized Scholastique in St-François-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud the same day. Godparents were Joseph Langlois and Geneviève Lorando, no signatures. [2] This could be Marie Scholastique but this is unprovable.

On 17 Nov 1795, in St-François-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Joseph Gagné widower of Marie Langlois married Marie Scholastique. Witnesses were: groom- his son Jacques Gagné, his son in law Jacques Marseau, his brother in law Jean Baptiste Langlois; Bride- her friends: Mathurin Dubreuil (could be Mathurin Dubreuil), Joseph Morin, Jerome Bedard (signature, could be Jérome Joseph Bedard but the signatures are dissimilar, more likely this is his son?). [3]

Scholastique Gagné (Gagné is added in the register above her name contemporaneously), 70 year old widow of Joseph Gagné, died 28 Jan 1846. She was buried 28 Jan 1846 in the cemetery of St-Vallier-de-Bellechasse. In attendance were Fraçois Lamarre, François Bélanger and Anaclet Roy, all three sign the register but relationship to Scholastique is not specified. [4]
