Obituary

Joseph A. Imel Dies At Home Near Faulkner. Joseph A. Imel, 75, long time resident of Cherokee County, died at 8 a.m. this morning at his home near Faulkner. Mr. Imel was born August 16, 1870 at Madison, Ind. When a child he moved with his parents to Elk City, Kans., where he grew to manhood. He was married to Cordelia Lewis, and they homesteaded a claim in the Sac and Fox strip in the Indian Territory. They resided here for ten years before moving to the present home. His wife preceded him in death on September 12, 1907. Also preceding him in death was a son, Carl, who gave his life in World War I, and a daughter, Mrs. Viola Jackson, deceased in March, 1922. Survivors include eight children, Mrs. Claudia Burrows of Portland, Ore., James Imel, Chetopa, Route 2; Mrs. Maida Lovelady, Oswego; Albert and Luther Imel, Chetopa Route 2; Gilbert and Calvin Imel of the home and Mrs. Ina Jackman of Washington, D. C.; three brothers, John Imel of Parmell, Tex., Mark Imel of Stroud, Okla., and Andrew Imel of New Mexico; 30 grandchildren, 11 great grand children; and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Christian church Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Cecil Orr of Chetopa. Burial will be in the Fly Creek cemetery.
