Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:
Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.
We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.
As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!
Hi again! Are you enjoying your time on WikiTree so far?
Now that you have had a little time to try our site, there are a few more features you may find useful:
For instance, ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards; including some tips on writing biographies
Also a friendly reminder about adding sources and references to your profile. Sources are critically important for genealogy and you will be helping future genealogists by listing where the information you've added came from. This page describes different kinds of sources: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources Also: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Most_Used_Links .
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, Dorothy WikiTree mentor
Thanks for your message indicating you already researched your family history for a couple of years and hope to solve some brick walls. I have found WikiTree to be an excellent tool for research and collaboration.
Collaboration might help bust through your brick walls. Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open). There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add Profiles to WikiTree. Once you entered your family members it is exciting to see other people finding your family profiles, asking questions, and expanding it.
If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum, or you might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.
Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
Great to have you on board, good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree.
I've been researching my family, led by my sister, for several years. I'm hoping that I / we will be able to break through some of the dead ends we have reached on some of our tree branches!
Also just noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. That's awesome. Our GEDCOM process is a bit different than what you might be used to on other sites. We have some great help pages to make your experience go more smoothly:
PS:, I see you have awarded yourself with the DNA Tested Badge.
If you are interested, WikiTree has a special DNA Project. Information on WikiTree's projects may be accessed from the FIND link, at the top right of most WikiTree pages; select PROJECTS from the drop down box. OR go here: Join us
Also you can use the menu's in the upper right hand corner of every page to find the G2G forum where you can ask questions & other DNA links.
Do you want volunteer and start adding your family and contribute information to our shared tree? If so, please post another message on your profile page, to that effect and I will be happy to confirm and welcome you to our Wikitree family.
