Biography

Died-At the home of her son, Sam'l H. Hutton. Tuesday Evening, 7 o'clock, Sept. 5th 1899, Mrs. Catherine Brockway, age 83 years, 6 months, and 15 days.

Her maiden name was Hutton. She was born in New York State Feb 20th, 1816. There were seventeen children in her family's family. She was married to Wm.G. Freeman, Jan 14th, 1837 and came west in 1845 or '6. Mr. Freeman died March 28th, 1849. Five children were born to them, two daughters, Mesdames Spiker, of Kansas, and two sons, Angelo and John of this city, one dead. She was again married May 20th, 1851, to Jesse Brockway who died October 14th, 1873. Three children were born to this union, Jesse of Denver, Colorado, Samuel of this city, and Aaron who died in infancy. She has 54 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

This lady's long residence here has given her a wide acquaintance and strong friendhips. Her death will cause sorrow to many although she outlived the alloted time of man. The funeral services were held at the M.P. church, Rev. Fox officiating and attended by a large following of relatives and friends.
