Andrew William George 'Happy' Huston DSM was born on 25th December 1923 at Annerley, Queensland, Australia. He was a son of William Huston and Violet Holness.
On 20th March 1942, Andrew enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy.[1] He was a member of the special commando group, Z Force, making the successful 1943 Operation Jaywick raid on Singapore Harbour and the unsuccessful 1944 repeat raid. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal.[2] Huston and Warne were separated from the main commando group making their escape from Singapore on 11th October. Huston died of illness on 1st November. Warne evaded the Japanese until March 1945, however was then tortured and died in captivity weeks later.Andrew William George Huston's name is located at panel 3 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. He is commemorated at Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore and Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, England.[3] Next of kin was listed as M Huston.
